Siem Reap: Siem Reap Authority and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) are accelerating the preparation of the Asean Smart City Development Project in Siem Reap.
At a talk between Siem Reap Authority and Mr. Testuji GOTO, Senior Advisor on Infrastructure Planning and Development, on April 24, 2019, both sides studied the development of Smart City of ASEAN and will make the city. Siem Reap become a smart city with the cooperation between the provincial administration and JICA. The project is divided into two parts, namely the first part is a study of the project from July 2019 to December 2019 and the second part is the project implementation from January 2020 to June 2020.
In addition, the project will establish a secretariat composed of the Smart City Development Committee and incorporate additional elements, especially provincial and district tourism departments from Chong Kneas and Siem Reap districts.
The government approved the principle with the Council of Ministers dated March 1, 2019, allowing the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction to set up ASEAN-Japan Smart City and the establishment of a private public forum on ASEAN-Japan urban development.
The establishment of ASEAN-Japan Smart City is a joint initiative of the Japanese side, and the three cities of Cambodia, Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Battambang are in the project.
Thoun Sinan, chairman of the Cambodia chapter of the Pacific Asia Travel Association, said the establishment of the Asean Smart City is truly important, and he welcomes this initiative as it will help create more confidence for travelers and more tourists will come and visit.
