Phnom Penh: The cabinet today will convene and discuss a draft “Construction Law” chaired by Prime Minister Hun Sen.
The construction law was first drafted in 2017 by the experts at the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction.
The draft law was submitted to the Council of Ministers on July 16, 2019 and passed through a technical meeting with the Council of Ministers and the Council for Economic and Cultural Affairs of the Council of Ministers in July and August.
The Ministry of Justice has helped to revise a number of points related to the procedures and regulations in order to ensure consistency with other existing laws in the Kingdom.
Over the last decade, investment in the construction industry has grown steadily especially in the construction of high-rise buildings such as condominiums, shopping malls, shopping centers, commercial centers and offices.
As the momentum of the construction sector increases, the need for strengthening the management of all processes and operations in the construction sector and its stakeholders is becoming increasingly important.

According to the draft “Construction Law” on August 30, 2019, the construction sector has played a key role among the three pillars supporting growth: tourism, agriculture and industry.
