A new cost of living survey has revealed the cost of living in Cambodia to be more expensive than Vietnam in 2019.
Numbeo Cost of Living Index 2019 has ranked Cambodia the fourth most expensive Southeast Asian country to live in following Singapore, Thailand and Myanmar.
The survey compiled data based on the price of rent, utilities, food and transportation.
Cambodia’s cost of living was more expensive than Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia.
“Cost of living in Vietnam is 19.70 percent lower than in Cambodia,” stated the survey. “Rent in Vietnam is 8.97 percent lower than in Cambodia.”
The survey found food and rental prices across the board to be more expensive in Cambodia than Vietnam.
“Local Purchasing Power in Ho Chi Minh City is 79.48 percent higher than in Phnom Penh,” stated the survey. “Consumer Prices in Ho Chi Minh City are 17.93 percent lower than in Phnom Penh.”
Cambodia was ranked the 65th most expensive country to live in in the world. Vietnam ranked 95th.
